Your gentle January retreat, your way

Welcome to Hibernate, lovely. I’m so glad you’re here!

This gentle 5-part series invites you to slow down and find a moment of retreat in deepest Winter with me, Lisa Mabberley, from Mother Nurture & Wild

These Hibernate voicenotes, landing every couple of days over the next week, are for you to dip into and take what you need.

I hope they’ll support you as you weave your own version of a wintry hibernation, calling in the magic of this quiet season to nourish you in all the ways you crave.

Hit play above & listen in for:

In this first instalment of Hibernate we explore what January moments of retreat, rest and hunkering down might look like for you.

And I share about the ways I’m calling in my own Winter’s hibernation, to re-fill after a busy December.

Episode length: 11 minutes 52 seconds

What you’ll need to join in:

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And you don’t need to be able to put your life on pause to join in either. Phew. Because that would be impossible, right?

Please just feel so welcome to dip in and listen to this series whenever you feel drawn to. There’s no need to ‘keep up’ because it’s not going anywhere. Nothing you need to do. Everything I share is offered up for you to take what speaks to you and leave what doesn’t.

You might hear something you want to do something with, but (as with everything) you’re totally in choice.

Completely non-essential cosy kit that might support your hibernation:

  • A cosy corner made extra cosy with your favourite blankets, pillows, etc

  • A hot water bottle

  • A warm cup of something lovely

  • A snack, if you’ve not been able to sufficiently fuel yourself that day so far

  • Your journal, a delicious book or some easy craft you love doing that can keep your hands busy whilst your mind unwinds

  • A candle, some essential oils in a diffuser or some incense

  • A restful playlist (I like this spotify one)

  • The absence of devices

  • Plentiful permission slips, written by you for you

  • Lower standards (challenging the story that everything has to be done before you can pause)

Apart from perhaps the last two, none of this is actually needed and should not get in the way of you taking these quiet moments for yourself. I mention them only because I’ve discovered myself that taking a few seconds to make your space feel extra cosy or nourishing can be a lovely way to send a signal to yourself that you matter.

This need for some slow… rest… re-filling, it matters.

Entirely optional journal prompts:

From the audio. If you want them.

  • What do you crave by way of a January hibernation? (this includes the ‘more of... less of...’ etc)

  • What does this look like in the context of your life?

  • How do you want to weave hibernation into your days?

Top tip: Sometimes if I’m not feeling like journaling, I just carry a question around with me through the day and have a good old chat with myself about it; seeing what comes up. I’m sure this is perfectly normal behaviour ;-)

I hope you enjoy this first instalment of Hibernate! I’m sending love from my cosy Winter’s nest to yours and I’ll see you with part two, in which we’re calling in deep rest, in a couple of days. Take care, lovely.
